How to activate McAfee
For McAfee Total Protection and Internet Security licences bought from DelTrix Technology. Takes about 10 to 15 minutes per device.
Before you start
- You have your licence email with your 25-character McAfee activation code.
- Remove any other antivirus program first, such as Norton, Avast or AVG. Running two antivirus programs causes problems. Microsoft Defender switches off by itself when McAfee is installed.
- You have an email address you can access. Your subscription is linked to a McAfee account.
Activate and install
Go to the McAfee activation page
Open mcafee.com/activate in your browser. Only use McAfee's own website.
Enter your code
Type the activation code from your email and your email address, then sign in or create a McAfee account. Your subscription is added to this account.
Download and install
Click Download, run the installer and follow the prompts. Restart the device if McAfee asks you to.
Check that it worked
Open the McAfee app. It should show that you are protected, and your account should show the subscription end date.
Add more devices
Install on your other devices
If your plan covers more than one device, sign in to your McAfee account on each computer and download McAfee there. You can also send yourself a download link from the account.
Phones and tablets
Install the McAfee app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and sign in with the same McAfee account.
If something goes wrong
McAfee says my code is invalid
Check for typing mistakes, and make sure you are on mcafee.com/activate. Each code can only be redeemed once. If it says it is already used, email us your order number.
The installer will not finish
Make sure all other antivirus programs are fully removed and restart the PC. Then download the installer again from your McAfee account.
How do I see how long my subscription lasts?
Sign in to your McAfee account. Your subscription and its end date are listed under My Account.
My subscription is ending
Buy a new licence from our shop before it ends, and add the new code to the same McAfee account.

Keep your licence key private. Each key activates the number of devices stated on the product, and a key that is shared or posted online can be blocked by the manufacturer.
